Apple Cider Vinegar

What It Does And How To Use It

I use an ACV rinse whenever my hair is starting to feel a little limp or lacking in shine. I don't really understand what it does and I won't pretend to. But it works.

Here's what I do:

I mix a tablespoon or two of Apple Cider Vinegar with 2 cups of warm water.

I shampoo my hair and rinse as usual.

I pour the ACV mixture over my head and smoosh it around a little. I rinse it out.

I condition like I always do.

And somehow my curls wind up looking bouncy and fresh again. I have no idea why.

Username prettypolly on naturallycurly.com wrote this in a thread about ACV:

"ACV isn't actually clarifying. Apparantly ACV is a PH balancer, cuticle closer, and does something for shine. The only clarifying thing it does is to remove build up of products used in THAT wash - i.e. the conditioner you have applied and are now rinsing off. Or whatever else you've used. It doesn't do anything for previous build up."
So, I have no idea why it works as well as it does, particularly since those of us that like to do ACV rinses usually do them BEFORE conditioning.
