Sweetpeacurli's Silly Little Site

Introduction

Hello and thank you for your interest in this site! Before you jump to any conclusions about it, please me explain the idea behind it.

I think I should tell you that I don't consider myself a curly hair expert. I haven't gone to school to study hair and I don't work in the field.

What I'll be talking about will be based solely on my personal experience and what I've learned by reading a minimal number of books and articles, along with listening carefully to the experiences of others.

So, let's get started...

How Are Curls Different?

I believe hair is similar to skin in that what might work for one person might not work for another. The moisturizer I love may not be heavy enough for a friend of mine. That said, I do believe that curly hair needs to be treated differently than other hair types, just as my oily, acne prone skin needs to be treated much differently than my friend's dry skin.

What Does This Mean To Me?

Curly hair is to straight hair what a cashmere sweater is to a cotton t-shirt. As Jessica McGuinty (creator of jessicurl) says, "Treat your hair with at LEAST the same respect as you treat your fine silk shirt." What I'll be discussing on these pages is how one goes about doing that. There's a lot of information here, and I know it seems overwhelming at first. Just take one thing at a time, and feel free to ask the ladies on the message boards at naturallycurly.com for help if you feel stuck.
